This last 18th of September I started University and let me tell you, I could not be happier. I love new beginnings and this is the best one yet. Leaving behind all that was dragging me down was something I desperately needed.
I decided to pursue a degree in Business and more specifically Economics at the Sapienza University of Rome. Classes have been going on for the last month and I feel amazingly accomplished regarding the notions learned and the people I have made friends with. Getting to Uni in the morning is not the easiest voyage, but it could be worse: I take the train and walk quite a lot, but I do not mind.
The books are indeed intimidating but once you get into the mood of studying and learning it all flows better. My professors this semester, all women, are great and teach in a very pleasant way. I also got lucky regarding the time the classes are taught: from 9am to 1pm. Very, very lucky indeed.
I love learning how a business is started and what is needed, how the state regulates the privates, and also how law works. Math is the one subject where I feel more advantaged, because the professor is teaching things I already know.
My exams are in January and I have started studying here and there, but I still have to get serious about it. All in all, I am extremely happy and excited with how my life is going.
While I was waiting for my train to arrive in Termini Station in Rome, I decided to take a look at motivational books written in English in the bookstore inside said station. I did not have much cash on me and so picked out an average-priced women-centred piece of work: “Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur“, written by Cara Alwill Leyba.
You can find the book on Amazon, right here. Now, if you, like me, had no idea who the writer is, let me tell you a couple of things about her: she is a badass. Pink hair, strong mottos like “Woman first, boss second” and a website called “The Champagne Diet”. She is an extremely motivating and positive person and that is clear from the first page of the book.
She has made it her life mission to motivate and empower women so that they can become the boss they always wanted to be and that is what she is doing with this book. It is a quick read which took me less than a week, only reading half an hour a day. It explores various themes, all introduced by quotes of famous women. The themes I most enjoyed were failing, connecting with other women, and trusting oneself’s potential, along with her original concept of “limitless luxe”.
If you want quick motivation on how to better your attitude towards other women, how to find sanity, and then imagine whatever it is that you want to accomplish in this life, you will enjoy this book. Of course, plenty of books like this have come out in recent years, with the new feminist wave, and that I love, despite taking away from the originality of the concept; regardless, the more girl power there is, the better.
I have finally gotten around to writing this review, despite taking the photos weeks ago. I have not written a beauty review in a very, very long time and figured it is high time for that.
As you can read from the title, this is a liquid lipstick review of a relatively new product, at least on the Italian market, aka where I shop and live. I decided to buy this lipstick because I needed a pinky nude shade and this was perfect, not too nude, not too pink and not too light either, for my skin tone.
The colour I bought it in is called 05 Loyalist and I remember paying about €12 in store, despite it retailing $9,49 on the Maybelline website and $7,12 on Amazon. The design of the packaging is very pleasing and simplistic, with a matte texture.
The product itself is, in all honesty, mediocre. The colour itself is gorgeous and apparently it should be so on deeper skin tones as well, according to the images on their website. The smell is very sweet and candy-like. The applicator is teardrop-shaped, according to them making the application effortless, even though I would have preferred a basic dome shaped wand.
As soon as you put it on your lips it tends to look streaky, but when it dries out it gets homogenous, although you have to be very careful with the contours of your lips, as the colour is very light; I would recommend using a lip liner.
Despite it being called “Matte Ink”, this product does not dry down completely matte, which did not bother me that much, until I saw it go into the lines of my lips. If you see my lips with no product on, they do not appear wrinkly at all, but with this lipstick on they look almost fake and not really attractive, maintaining a latex-like texture. Also, as soon as I drank or ate anything that was not water, the inside of my lips started peeling off and looking even more latex-like. Do not even think about applying a balm or gloss on top, since the product will start sliding off and in my opinion, trying to make this product shiny goes against the initial purpose.
In conclusion, if you have to get out of the house for a maximum of 3 hours, this lip is okay, but I do not recommend it on a night out or even for school or work.
Here I am, back with the review of the second book of A Song of Ice and Fire. I must say that I probably enjoyed this book more, simply because the tv show, despite following most of the events, did not feel as a carbon copy of the book, therefore making the reading of the book more enjoyable.
Trying not to divulge too much of the plot for those who have not read it yet is impossible and I am sorry. So if you have not reached this part yet, I recommend you click out since I will now make a list of my favourite events:
Renly’s death: this was probably the moment where we, as readers, realised that magic is indeed real in this book, under the form of Renly’s killer and that Melisandre might not be as crazy as we all thought;
Brienne’s introduction: Brienne is one of my favourite characters and I could not wait for her to be revealed. Her loyalty is probably her most interesting feature and I cannot wait to see how it develops in the later books;
Jaqen H’ghar: I just love everything that has to do with Essos and he is no exception. His demeanour and mystery make me love him even more, especially seeing his relationship with Arya evolve;
Battle of Blackwater Bay: probably one of the few times I actually appreciated Sansa’s point of view (POV). I loved the back and forth between her POV and Tyrion’s and how the battle was lived inside and outside of the Red Keep. Of course, I cannot forget to mention Tyrion’s brilliance;
Jon Snow killing Qhorin Halfhand: again, in this moment I understood how great and meant for greatness Jon really is. He is one of my favourite characters and him being loyal to the Watch through and through left me speechless;
House of the Undying: all the prophecies there are so amazing and I cannot wait for all of them to happen. Anything regarding Rhaegar I love, so him saying that his son is the prince who was promised and that his is the song of ice and fire just makes me hope.
Regarding my favourite POVs, Tyrion takes the gold, while Davos is in second place. They are also my favourite characters throughout; I do also enjoy Jon’s, although I am not a fan of the whole behind the wall narrative. The POVs I do not really enjoy are Theon’s and Bran’s (besides when he has visions of the past).
All in all, I loved this book and I see how it sets the foundation and stepping stones for the rest. I am reading A Storm of Swords as of right now and I will keep you updated.
The past couple of weeks have been tough and putting it all on here requires a tremendous amount of effort on my part. I am not going to bother you with the details of my heartbreak or the how, why and by who, but I am here to narrate how I decided to react.
Getting over a heartbreak is never easy, but throughout the years I have learnt how to move on faster; it is not something I do consciously, my mind just seems to remove immediate memories in order to let me heal as fast as possible. That does not mean that the memories will not resurface from time to time, but at least the immediate response helped me breathe more easily.
When you go back to being alone the focus and attention you were giving the other person has to go somewhere else; I decided to push it towards myself. I noticed that I had somehow lost my glamorous and unique self which I always had going on and only found it when I went out on dates. I lost my smile and sense of humour due to all of the pain and suffering. I needed to find all of that and get it back.
Focusing back on myself meant following a couple of steps:
Drink more water: this is necessary for glowing skin and overall great health. This is the number one step in any good routine;
Focus on skincare: having a good base to lay makeup on is always a key factor;
Read more: this is a good life tip in general. You can never read too much and you can never be too educated, reading everyday, wether for recreational or educational reasons, should be a priority;
Go out: the worst thing that you can do is isolate yourself from the outside world and wallow is self pity. Going out forces you to wear makeup (if you want to), get pretty and be sociable, at least in my case, so it is the best thing you can do;
Be open: do not close your heart to other people just because of a bad experience, or because of a thousand ones. No matter what, the bravest thing to do is start clean and open, with no prejudice, but with the knowledge of the past.
I suppose this is all. I am obviously still working on all of this, but the important thing is starting. I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you for reading.
This sale season was not as successful as what I am generally used to, but that means that I actually saved money, so that must be a plus. I always give myself a budget and I used less than half of it, a new record for me.
I ended up, as per usual, going on a shopping trip to Rome. It was tiring as hell, but I am content with what I bought. Let’s start (every item I could find online will be linked in the titles).
As soon as I saw this dress I fell in love. I find it to be very romantic and flirty. The skirt does not get too high, even if it is windy. I have been looking for a cute red dress for quite a long while, so I was pretty ecstatic when I saw this. This item was not on sale and I got it for €15,99.
Again, an item that was not on sale. I find these pants to be very elegant and a staple in any woman’s wardrobe. They are a statement piece and not something you see very often. I got them for €17,99.
3. Bershka – White Bralette
Unfortunately, I could not find this bralette online. It is very lovely, with lace detailing and slightly see through silk. I am still not sure wether I would wear this on its own or under a very low cut dress or shirt. We will have to wait and see.
Now, this bralette I definitely will not wear on its own, as it is very see through and cannot be exchanged for a top. I think I will wear it underneath a couple of dresses I have, black of course, and even a couple of dress shirts. It was on sale and I got it for €6,99.
5. Nuna Lie – Floral Dress
I already talked about this dress in this post and I am very sorry I could not find it online. It it very beautiful and I wish you would look at the pictures on that post to see how it fits.
6. Artlove Paris – Floral dress
I bought this dress for €50 from a boutique in my town and despite looking for the brand online I could not find this item. I suppose it is an indie brand and therefore harder to find online. Anyways, I love it. It has a very deep neckline and slits on both sides. I wore it to Rome on a Saturday and it was magical.
I have been eyeing this sort of diy palette for some time and I decided to finally buy it. It is the sort of palette that you create yourself. I bought it for €6,90 and it was not on sale.
8. WYCON – Refills
Of course, I wanted to start forming my palette with some nice colours and I picked three. First, shade 01 white matte, which was unintentional, as I wanted another one. Secondly, shade 40 marsala, which is a very unique yet popular shade that I have wanted for a while. Lastly, I got a metallic colour, shade 70 tortora satin, very intense. I have yet to use all of these colours, but I swatched them and they look great.
9. Etsy – Simply Notebooks planner
I decided to invest in a very good planner, since I am starting university in September and I want to be as organised as possible, therefore being as productive as I can. I ordered a very pretty hard cover planner, which apparently is not available anymore on the easy store, but the shop offers many other soft cover planners, here. Mine was an investment, since the planner cost €35 and shipping from Estonia to Italy was €10, for a total of €45. Unfortunately, my planner has not even shipped yet so I cannot show you how great it looks, but I plan on doing an organisation/planning post sooner or later.
I have finally returned from my vacation in Scalea, Calabria. For those of you who do not know, just like I did not know some months ago, Scalea is a comune in the province of Cosenza in Southern Italy. My friend and I decided to spend our holidays there because she had already been to this place years ago and the sea is beautiful.
We stayed at Santa Caterina Village, quite a peculiar hotel for two young girls. Let’s say that the village scene is more for families and older people; but it was fine. It was not spectacular, the days were all like the one before, but I managed to relax and that was my goal.
On the 23rd of July I got out of bed at 4:45am, picked my friend up and made our way to Roma Termini, the main train station in Rome. There, we took a Frecciarossa to Naples, which took about an hour and was, needless to say, comfortable. From Naples we took a Regional train to Scalea and let me tell you, I have never been on a more packed train. There were old men singing, children playing, my stomach was killing me and my friend was with her legs on the suitcase between mine. It was a journey which lasted 3 and a half hours.
Finally, we made it to Scalea, got our rooms after another long wait and after dodging the invasive guys who were there to animate the environment. As you can see, in our room we had a big bed, made of two single ones and then we had a single one, which became the resting place for my suitcase for the entirety of our journey.
After staying still for a bit, we went to the beach. The water was pretty, clear and unfortunately for me, almost immediately deep.
Of course, as soon as the sun started setting, I had to take some pictures, before dinner. You guys know that is what I love doing on trips.
The next days have been a little more photoshoot-intense, especially in my bathing suits. Unfortunately, the next days have also been pretty turbulent regarding the sea, reason why people were not allowed to swim. Regardless, I posed.
On the 27th, we finally decided to get out of the resort and visit the city. Let me tell you, besides people not being very mindful and cautious drivers, the city itself is beautiful. All along the beach there are some shops (I went to “Il Brigante” to buy typical food items, such as ‘nduja, spicy salami and liquor), while the historical centre is situated somewhere higher and I am pretty sure it could be reached by car, although we did not venture so far.
A habit of mine is taking pictures of old or peculiar houses and there were a couple which did catch my eye, both inhabited and non.
Word of mouth had that there were some stairs to be climbed somewhere on the rocks where the view was fantastic, so we of course had to go. Besides the steps being steep, the view was indeed glorious and heavenly.
Our last adventure before returning home was taking a train trip to Diamante, another touristic city nearby, probably less busy with tourists. It gave me the feeling of a fortress, with its high walls facing the sea.
The remaining days and nights I spent chilling and dancing bachata before going to sleep. Our journey back was tiring; our train was 30 minutes late, packed and it stopped at random times. We got back to Termini with the same delay and we saw we were not the only ones, as there was a train 190 minutes late. I would have gone mad.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post and the pictures that came with it.
