Australia Travel Diary – Part 1

I finally decided to make this blog post and I am terrified of how huge it is going to get. I have to divide it in at least two parts in order to not bore you guys, so bear with me.

As some of you may know, I left for Australia at the end of December for my winter holidays, along with my grandmother. This whole trip happened because my uncle and his family live there and grandma has not seen them in years. Therefore, it was high time we got a move on.

We left on the 21st of December from Fiumicino Airport in Rome at 8:45pm. Of all the airports I went to, Fiumicino is the best organised, in my opinion. We bought our tickets with Qantas, an Australian company, but all the flights were operated by Emirates.

img_2904

I tried to dress somewhat casual, since we had to go from very cold temperatures in Rome to very warm ones in Dubai and then Brisbane. I wore a simple pair of leggings with a camisole and a long shirt on top, while keeping my bomber jacket in my backpack, which was my hand luggage.

The flight to Dubai was 6 hours long and it was not too bad. We had dinner on the plane and I tried to sleep, but my main problem is that I cannot sleep unless I am extremely comfortable and this was not the case, since we were flying Economy.

We got to Dubai, where we went through customs again and we went to our gate for our 5-hour layover. Weirdly enough, this layover did not seem so bad. I went and got Burger King (which was not as good as I am used to) and just waited. The way currency works in this airport is that you pay with whatever currency you have (I am not sure they accept all currencies, but the main ones yes) and the change they give you is in their own currency, so the dirhams.

img_2913

Next, before boarding the plane we had to pass through additional customs to make sure that we had no liquids. Next, our 14-hour flight started. This was the roughest for me, since when we still had 6 hours left I got very bad heartburn from something I ate (pro tip: do not eat things that you so not know for sure you react well to). I had to go and ask the cabin crew for some medicine and finally, after two pills I felt better.

The flight seemed infinte, but we finally made it to Brisbane, on the 23rd of December in the morning. It was of course very hot, since it was the middle of summer. Our family lives an hour away from the city, in a town called Landsborough, not really in the middle of nowhere, but close. They live near the mountains people of Australia hold saint. We made a quick stop at a fruit store and I loved all the colours.

img_2961

My uncle’s house faces a forest where hundreds of birds are heard singing everyday, and I must say I am not used to any type of noise, besides cars passing through the city.

img_6322img_6325

On Christmas Day, our second full day there, after catching up on much needed sleep, we went to a beach, Mooloolaba, which ended up being amazing. We only went there in recognition the that day and we walked around its shore.

img_3004img_3011img_3035img_3056

Everybody is extremely kind and welcoming there, I noticed. The day after, the 26th, we went to the Australia Zoo, which is property of the Irwin family, Steve Irwin’s legacy. It was very interesting, huge and well kept. The ticket does cost quite a bit, but it is worth it, since you have access to every show and facility.

img_3104img_3105img_3121img_3125img_3159img_3155

On the 27th, we went to Brisbane to spend the night. We wanted to take the train from Landsborough, but the railway was not working so they offered us a free bus ride to a farther away train station and we took the train from there.

Once in Brisbane we visited a square and then a “shopping centre” which was in the open and that is where I stocked up on gifts and souvenirs.

img_3205img_3206img_3209img_3212

Then we checked in at our hotel, the Urban, which was very neat, with very nice beds and bathrooms, but if you want to go there for the pool and hot tub you will be disappointed. Anyways, it was very accommodating.

We ended up having lunch and cocktails near the river, at a very busy and young place, the Bavarian Beer Café.

I loved it.

img_3215img_3223img_3230img_3232

This is part 1 for now. I will add a second part to this for sure, since I bought a camera there and had fun with it.

Thank you for reading.

Book Review : Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I finally got the chance to buy this book and I read it on my way back from Australia; I finished it right before landing in Rome. I wanted to get my hands on it ever since it came out, but I wanted it in English, not Italian, so this was my chance. I bought it at a duty free shop in Brisbane Airport.

img_6714

So, as you might already know, this is not an actual book as much as it is the screenplay used for the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play that everybody has been going crazy over this past year.

The plot picks up 19 years later, right where the last film ended. We have a new set of characters, some of whom get introduced in this book anew. You will immediately notice that time and action move very quickly and that the whole dynamic has changed. Harry is now a father dealing with a son he does not understand, Hermione is juggling being a mother while also being Minister of Magic and Professor McGonagall, well, she keeps dealing with insane students.

I will not give anything away, since it is a very interesting book and it keeps, despite the new characters, giving us a glimpse into the world be all know and love. It does really feel like being back at Hogwarts, but from a different perspective. Humour is very present and I actually found myself laughing more than twice at certain passages (hint: Ron was always present).

img_6717

Unfortunately, there is one aspect I did not like of the book, not because it was unpleasant, but because it did not convince me. You will understand what I am saying if and when you read the book, since it is a pretty big part of it. Being used to JK Rowling’s writing, who only revealed the mysteries of the series in the last book, coming face to face with such an important event without it being accurately premeditated sort of left me hanging.

All in all, I am very glad I am part of this world again and I loved every single page. It was a pretty fast read and I do whole-heartedly recommend it.

Score: 9/10

Thank you for reading.

Haul – 2017 Winter Sale

I finally went shopping this season and I have to say I am not too displeased with the results, although I still need some items.

I went shopping with the intention of buying office attire for my New York trip in March, but I only bought two items with that purpose. Let’s start.

1 .  Huge Scarf – H&M

img_6641img_6645

I bought this extremely long and fluffy scarf because it has been freezing lately here in Italy. It even snowed in Sicily, just to give you an idea. So I got this scarf, although it was not on sale and I could not find it on the website. It is a light grey with a very slight blue tint. It cost €14,99 and it feels like cashmere, although it is 100% acrylic.

2. Basic T-Shirt – H&M

img_6647img_6650

I already have a couple of tees like this, but I could not help myself because this colour is extremely pretty. It is a neutral grey with warm tones and I am a sucker for it. It cost €9,99 and it was not on sale, since basics never are, in my experience. I got in in a size S.

3. Knitted Pullover – H&M

img_6664img_6669

Again, I bought this pullover mainly for the colour but also for the semi-deep v-neck. I love sweaters with this cut, since I consider them very sexy and feminine. On the side I could only find it in the colour black. It originally cost €24,99 but I paid €10 for it. I got it in a size S.

4. Blazer – H&M

img_6682

I really needed a blazer for New York and I found a pretty simple black on for €24,99 although not on sale. It fits nicely and it is tighter around the waist, which is what I was looking for. I got it in a size US 6, EUR 36.

5. Bomber Jacker – Pull & Bear

I know, I have a problem. I just love jackets and bomber jackets in particular. I already have a black one and an army green one, but I really wanted this one. The colour is gorgeous and I got it even though it was not on sale, for €29,99. It has an edgier look than my other ones and I cannot wait to wear it. I got it in a size M.

6. Crop Top – Pull & Bear

img_6692

This is a very cropped crop top with a crossover neckline. I would wear it with high waisted jeans or with a high waisted skirt. It is knitted and it was on sale for €5,99 reduced from €12,99. I got it in a size S.

7. Sporty Crop Top – Pull & Bear

This crop top just augments my ambition to have abs. I really want to wear it at the gym without worrying about my stomach. I could not find it on the site, unfortunately. It has “GIRL GANG” printed on the bottom and it looks very nice on. I got it in a size S.

8. Tulle Dress – Pull & Bear

The love I have for this dress is immense. I never thought this type of dress would flatter my body shape, but this particular one does. It is not too short and it fits very nicely, while still being flowy. It cost €19,99 and it was again, not on sale.

9. Knit Dress – Zara

img_6708

Once again, I could not find this particular dress on the site and it is honestly a shame. It is so beautiful on and not too tight. It must be sold out almost everywhere, since I also got the last one in the store. It was reduced form €49,99 to €19,99, so it is probably the best bargain here.

10. Flowy Shirt – Zara

img_6709img_6710

I needed a shirt like this for my New York trip and I am glad I found it. I love how it is not stark white and how it looks very classic. And yes, you guessed right, it is not on the site anymore.

Well, this is all for now. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading.

Giorgio Armani Glasses – Review

I am back from Australia and I need to up my blogging game as soon as possible. Happy New Year, by the way! Let this be the best year yet.

Anyways, right before leaving for vacation, I decided to change my eyeglasses, since the lenses were not as clear as they used to be and I have had those frames for 3 or 4 years. It was time for a change and I am very glad I did it.

Finding a pair of glasses that I like was extremely hard for both me and the lady helping me, but we finally decided on this Giorgio Armani model, the AR7003. I believe it is an unisex model, since I tend to steer clear of over feminine shapes, like cat eyes and such. I chose this shiny black style and I am in love.

img_6635

They are very similar to the ones I had before, but I love the fact that they are very classy and timeless, in my opinion. They have a very professional and clean shape, with the Giorgio Armani logo on the sides.

I have found a couple of sites that carry them :

When they finally arrived, they came inside a beautiful bag, box and pouch. The bag is a beautiful metallic colour with black writing; the box is brown with gold writing; the pouch is made of brown leather and feels very high quality; then there is a smaller textile pouch, where I keep my old frames. The attention to details made the whole experience very special.

img_6614img_6618img_6619img_6620img_6633

I am very glad I chose this model and I will do my best to maintain them in great condition for as long as possible.

Thank you for reading.

Beauty Haul – December, 2016

I kind of went on a shopping spree, with the excuse that I am leaving for Australia in three days and I need to have everything prepared. Lame excuse, but at least I do not feel as guilty. Let’s get started :

1. BaByliss 32mm Hair Curler

img_2850

I had my eyes on this hair curler for months and I finally decided to get it, since it is exactly what I need : something to create loose curls and waves with, to always look put together. I got it at an electronics store and it was € 34,99. I already put it to test, but my hair was very dirty, so the curls were not exceptional, but they did last for a couple of days. Here are two links on amazon : one and two.

2. Schwarzkopf Heat Protecting Spray

img_2853

Of course I had to also stock up on heat protectant, since I need to keep my hair in check on vacation. I have used this in the past and I just repurchased it. It protects up until 220°C and I love it.

3. Maybelline Super Stay Primer

img_2854

I finally decided to buy a primer and I must say, it actually works. Of course, it does not keep makeup on for 24 hours, but it does indeed lengthen its duration. Makeup on my nose is the first one to go, but with this it tends to stay on longer, and that is all the proof I need. It has a slight peachy colour as soon as you pump it out, but it blends into the skin as if it were transparent.

4. L’Oréal Lumi Fondation

img_2855

I repurchased this foundation after a couple of years of using other ones. I was looking at my old pictures, trying to figure out why my skin was glowing and dewy and I understood that this was the reason why. Although it is not the most long lasting foundation and has to be powdered during the day, it turns out beautiful in pictures. My shade is N3 Pure Linen, which was the lightest I could find, and luckily it matches me. You can find it here or here.

5. WYCON Liquid Lipstick – shade 04

I decided to buy another liquid lipstick and I chose this mauve shade. It does not have 100% full coverage, but two layers will do. It cost € 6,90. The staying power is pretty strong, but of course it feels dry, as all liquid lipsticks do.

6. KIKO Precision Face Brush 08

img_2862

I desperately needed a new face brush and I got this one from KIKO. It is perfect for underneath the eyes, despite not picking up too much product, which may be a good thing, so to not cake up my face. It has a good weight and it feels and looks very professional. I already tried it, reason why the bristles are beige, and it is very soft. It cost € 16,95.

7. KIKO Sculpting Touch Contour Stick – shade 201

img_2868

I finally got a creamy contour product. I am so excited to try this out and see if I am any good at contouring. This is very creamy, but might be a little too easy to blend. I got the darkest shade, since it was the cool toned one.

img_2869

8. KIKO Definition Eyeliner

My old liquid eyeliner is not as smooth as it once was and it is also almost empty, so I needed another one. I got this one and I tried it once : I am not exactly impressed; it was not as intense with only one swipe and it slightly smudged on my outer eye. We will see how it will work out next time. It also takes some time to dry, so I have to wait before applying anything else. It cost € 6,90.

9. KIKO Blending Brush 200

This is my second time buying this, since my old one is basically dead. I love it and it is very good at its job. On the site they do not carry it anymore, since they brought out a new line and the brush replacing this particular shape should be this one.

10. Essence BB Lipgloss – 01 keep it real

I have been pretty interested into glosses lately, so I decided to get this one, mainly for the shade. Unfortunately, the colour does not show up on my lips at all. It is nice and it has the classic lipgloss feeling, but I wanted something more intense.

11. Essence Volume On! Plumping Lipgloss – 02 c’est bon, c’est bonbon

Again, I got this lipgloss to try and I actually like this one. It has a pretty icy pink shade and it does a little plumping, though not too much. The tingling feeling is not too intense and all in all, I like it.

That was all! Thank you for reading!

Life Update – December 11, 2016

These last few months have been pretty intense and full of experiences. Plus, the rest of December and the beginning of 2017 are also going to be interesting.

So, first thing’s first : I passed my driving theory exam! I felt so relieved, since I have been stressing myself out ever since I started studying in July. Good things take time and I feel so happy. I have been practicing driving for the past month or so and I think I will take my exam in February. I am not bad at driving, but I can always get better and if I am to get a license, I want to be a really good driver, so that I can actually take on that responsibility.

Next up, I got accepted to participate in a diplomacy program put forward by the Italian Diplomatic Academy, which will culminate in a trip to New York to take part in a simulation of a meet at the United Nations headquarters. This will happen in March and I cannot wait. I went to the first three hour lesson last week and, despite it being gruelling, it is totally worth it. I think that this whole course and final experience will serve me as a lesson for my future.

Another thing I am very proud of is that I finally donated blood! I say finally because I tried to donate right after I turned 18 at the beginning of the year, but I was told that my blood pressure was too low. A week ago I tried again, since the guys who take care of these donations came to my school, and I succeeded! It took me 5 minutes and 32 seconds, which is very fast. They will analyse a part of the blood I donated to make sure that it is healthy and they will send me the data in a month. I really wanted to donate, since there is a high chance that my blood type is 0, which means that everyone can receive my blood. I also want to make this a habit, because I think that it is a moral duty and there are no consequences for you, besides being tired on donation day.

Probably the most exciting thing this month has to offer is that in precisely 10 days I am leaving, with my grandma, for vacation in Australia! My uncle lives there with his family, so we are going to stay about 2 weeks with them, to spend the winter holidays with this part of our family, at the beach. I am trying to prepare myself for the long trip, but it will be worth it 100%. I cannot wait; I have already started packing and shopping for the trip.

Thank you for sticking with me until now and get ready for travel posts.

Outfit of the Day – November 20, 2016

Surprise, surprise, an all black outfit.

It was a sunny day and I decided to finally wear my new Converse shoes and what better way to style them than to put together an all black ensemble.

I wore a pair of simple black leggings, the less sheer I could find. On top, I wore a black camisole and a long black flowy shirt.

img_2314

The strong piece of this outfit is of course the black leather jacket, which I got from Bershka years ago. It is my most loved piece of outerwear and it still looks brand new.

I apologise for my lack of posting lately, but I have been extremely busy with school and life in general, so I have neglected this aspect of my life. I promise I will try to be more consistent. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading.
